Monument Elementary School Residency
3/17/99 - 3/31/99

Cooperative movement structures:
Developed by 4th, 5th & 6th graders using large plastic tarp (12' x 20')

Notes:
We began the residency by having student lie flat on the plastic tarp in a shape of their choosing. We traced their outline inside a template of a large body shape that was used to create an oversize sculptural figure.

1) With tarp stretched taut at waist level walk around the edges of the tarp, hand over hand while rotating right. You can hold it with your back to the tarp.

2) With tarp stretched taut, count 1, 2, 3 and gently drop.

3) Stretch tarp flat on floor, from the sides, roll up into the middle and unfurl.

4) With tarp stretched taut at waist level, toss gently into the air, pass underneath from one side to the other, catch the tarp on the other side.

5) With one person at each corner and along the long side, tarp stretched taut at waist level, gently lift tarp together. Two opposite frolickers cross underneath the tarp with some invented moves. ( side/side, corner/corner, corner/corner)

6) With tarp stretched taut at waist level, toss gently into the air while stepping in and left. Step out and flatten tarp to the waist.

7) Gently lift tarp together and gather in the center pulling tarp down around your back and sit on it = (bubble). Crawl out to edge tucking under the tarp and just showing your face. Get up and lie down in your traced shape.

8) Gently lift tarp together, freeing one person to go underneath and invent a move. Take turns all around.

9) Lift tarp gently into the air, come in together underneath touching elbows, stretch flat.
